The pandemic was an unfortunate time, and many of us are not out of the woods. As we have experienced unusual times and had to take a lot of measures to keep from getting sick, there are many things that haven’t been touched on.

One of the most important things that isn’t talked about as much as it should be is maintaining your mental health. It is extremely important to stay physically healthy, but your mental state is also crucial when it comes to looking at your health and well-being.

As we have been living in a time where socialization has been limited, distancing from others has been encouraged, and we’ve all been asked to take lots of precautions as we go about our day, it’s important we touch base with how we are feeling. It is easy to get carried away with the “new normal” and not take time to make sure your taken care of. Here are a couple things we recommend you remember as you continue to carry on with your days and months to come.

  1. Take each day at a time. It’s easy to get lost in the news and shuffle of what’s happening around us – both in NY and globally. However, it’s important to just take a deep breathe and remain calm. Situations can be overwhelming and anxiety and fear can take over, but it’s important to remember to take several deep breaths and bring it back to the basics. Slow inhales and exhales will calm your body down and even bring your blood pressure to a normal level after a time of stress. Remember, each day at a time. One moment at a time. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, breathe through it.
  2. Don’t get stuck. After being encouraged to stay in and distance from people, it’s easy to get stuck inside or in your “new routine”. However, it’s important to realize that we all need socialization. We aren’t encouraging you to go out and not be safe, we are encouraging you to stay in touch with those closest to you. Whether it be your closest friends or family, make sure you make it a point to stay in touch. There are so many virtual games and even online workouts that you can do with others to stay in touch, but also remain safe.
